More Efficient Public Audits for Less Corruption

Aim: Increase transparency around auditing report and the implementation of their recommendations to contribute to reducing corruption.

How: Sweden supports the civil society organization Center for Civic Initiatives (CCI) in their work to create a more transparent public sector and a more responsible spending of budget funds to contribute to reducing corruption. The project works to increase transparency about the effectiveness of auditing reports for public institutions and the implementation of the recommendations submitted to the institutions that have been audited. It also increases transparency regarding political party financing. This is done through public announcements of information from audit reports about political party financing, raising awareness among the public about of performance audits, publishing and following up on audits performed by the State Auditor, and to publicly present the most important findings from audits on an online database. In order to better target institutions with corrupt practices, CCI also works on strengthening the participation of the general public in the selection of public institutions that will be subject of audit.

Why: Increased transparency is part of the combat against corruption and needed for Bosnia and Herzegovina to get closer to EU membership.
